I graduated from Augusta High School in 1998! Go Orioles! It is a great opportunity to teach in the district where I went to school. After high school I went to Bethel College to be a nurse. Obviously the nursing profession and I did not mesh and I went into elementary education. When I made the phone call to talk to my parents about switching my major I had to swallow my pride and tell them I was following in mom’s footsteps and wanted to be a teacher, even though growing up I swore that would never happen. I’m glad I made the change to Education!
I graduated from Bethel in 2002 and then went on to further my education by attending Baker University and Wichita State Univeristy to get my Masters Degree and Library Science Certification.
Bethel College – Bachelor of Science in Education – 2002
Baker University – Masters in the Art of Education – 2005
Wichita State University – Library Science Certificate – 2006
I attend a monthly Technology Integration Group at ESSDACK. It provides me with great opportunity to further expand my knowledge of technology and how it can best benefit our students and staff.
Google Certified Educator – 2015
I’ve been a librarian at Augusta Middle School since August 2006. I know I’m biased, but I have the best job in education. I get to work with a variety of teacher and students, administration, the technology department, fun new tech tools AND get to read books.
My first teaching job was at Robinson Elementary in Augusta. I taught 4th grade for two years from August 2002-May 2004. After teaching at Robinson, I then taught 5th grade for two years at Bluestem Elementary in Leon, KS. When a middle school library job was posted for Augusta Middle School, I hesitantly applied. I really wanted an elementary library position; middle school seemed scary. Boy was I wrong! I started at Augusta Middle School in August 2006 and have been here ever since. I can’t image working anywhere else!
