6th Grade Social Studies
I graduated in 1992 from Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial High School in Lake Crystal, Minnesota. After high school graduation, I attended Mankato State University, which is now Minnesota State University Mankato. I graduated from there in June of 1997. I earned my Masters Degree from Baker University in Technology, Curriculum & Instruction and Multiculturalism in 2015.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in K-6 Education and a concentration in Sociology in 1997. In May of 2015, I earned my Masters of Education degree from Baker University in Baldwin, KS.
In November 2017, I attended the NCSS Conference for Social Studies teachers in Wichita, KS.
Each year I attend the HGSS conferences to keep up to date with the latest teaching strategies and assessment information.
I started teaching at Augusta Middle School in August of 2009. I was a sixth grade English teacher my first year. I then transferred to my current position as a sixth grade social studies teacher because I love teaching about the ancient world. My class room is a flexible classroom with a variety of seating choices.Students are exposed to a variety of different learning strategies to meet the needs of all students.
In 1997, after graduation from Mankato State, I spent a year as a substitute teacher. I was requested for two long-term positions within the Arlington School District. The next year I was hired as a K-5 teacher in a childcare center in the Twin Cities. In 1999, I taught sixth grade at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Madelia, Minnesota and worked there for four years as a teacher. Then I was hired as the Principal of St. Mary’s School and Director of their childcare center for two years, before moving to Wells, MN. At St. Casimir’s School in Wells, I taught Kindergarten for another four years before moving to Kansas in February 2009. That fall I was hired here at Augusta Middle School as a sixth grade English teacher. The following year I made the choice to move to Social Studies and this is where I have been since. I had been a cheer coach at AMS for two years and am currently the NJHS sponsor.
