6th Grade English
I attended Iola High School in Iola, KS-a small town in Southeast Kansas. After graduating from Iola High in 1984, I went to Allen Country Community College and earned an Associate Arts Degree in Business Administration in May 1986. After graduating from Allen Community College, I left the Southeast Kansas area, moved to Manhattan, KS, and became a Kansas State University Wildcat. Go Cats!
It was soon after enrolling at K-State that I realized that Business Administration and I were not a great fit. So, I changed my major to education and received my Bachelor of Science in 1990-a decision I never regretted. Years later I returned to school and obtained a Master Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Wichita State. (1999)

Since Fall 2003 I have taught 6th grade English/Language Arts at Augusta Middle School.
After substitute teaching in Johnson County from 1990-1992, I moved to Augusta in 1992 to begin teaching with USD #402 and have been with this district for 29 years. From 1992 to 1998 I worked at Robinson Elementary teaching 4th grade from 1992-98 and first grade from 1998-2002. Teaching first grade at Robinson Elementary led me to teaching first grade at Ewalt Elementary during the 2002-2003 school year. In addition to my student teaching position, my years of substitute teaching, and years as a full time teacher, becoming a Nationally Board Certified teacher in 2002 has greatly impacted my experience as a teacher.
My husband and I were married in 1995. We were blessed with the birth of our daughter in 2004. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, knitting, singing in my church’s choir, and spending time traveling with my family.
